Privacy policy

What we collect about you, why, who sees it, and the choices you have.

Last updated 8 October 2026

This is a working draft. It is being reviewed and is not yet the final agreement.

1. Who is responsible for your information

Movva, also shown as Ride Movva, is run by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [COMPANY ADDRESS]. That company decides how your information is used and is responsible for it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. You can reach the person in charge of privacy at [PRIVACY EMAIL].

2. What we collect

  • Your account: your name, email address and phone number. Your password is stored scrambled, so no one at Movva can read it.
  • People you save: your emergency contact, passengers you book for, and parcel receivers. Please only give us their details if they are happy for you to.
  • Your bookings: routes, dates, seats, ride type, the area and address of any home pickup or drop-off, and where you ask to get down along the road.
  • Your parcels: what you declared, its value, the receiver's name and phone number, and the photo we take at drop-off.
  • Payments: the amount, the method and a Paystack reference. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • What you tell us: ratings, comments, and messages to support or the safety line.
  • Your device: basic technical details such as browser type and the pages you open, used to keep the service working.

3. Location

  • We track the car on every trip, using the driver's phone. We do not track your phone.
  • Your own location is read only when you tap a button that asks for it, such as sending your location to your emergency contact. It is used for that action and not kept as a history.
  • Anyone you share a live trip link with can see where the car is until the trip ends.

4. Why we use it, and our legal reasons

  • To provide the service you booked (our contract with you): making bookings, sending tickets and updates by SMS or WhatsApp, finding your pickup and drop-off, moving and releasing parcels, taking payments and paying refunds.
  • To keep people safe (our legitimate interest, and to protect life): tracking trips, checking passengers in, reaching you or your emergency contact if something goes wrong, and investigating incidents.
  • To meet the law (legal obligation): keeping payment and trip records, and answering lawful requests from authorities.
  • To improve Movva (our legitimate interest): using ratings and trip records to plan routes and train drivers.
  • To send offers (your consent): only if you agree, and you can stop them at any time.

5. Who sees your information

  • Your driver: your name, booking code, seat, pickup and drop-off, and a way to call you about the trip.
  • Movva staff: the people who schedule trips, run Movva points, answer support and handle refunds see the booking and parcel details they need for that work.
  • A parcel receiver: the sender's first name, the parcel code and where to collect it.
  • People you choose: anyone you share a live trip or parcel tracking link with.
  • Companies that work for us: Paystack for payments, Supabase for storing data, and our SMS and WhatsApp providers. They may use your information only to do that work.
  • Authorities: when the law requires it, or when someone is in danger.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

6. Where it is stored

Some of the companies that work for us store information on servers outside Nigeria. When that happens, we rely on the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act allows for sending information abroad. [HOSTING REGION AND TRANSFER SAFEGUARD]

7. How long we keep it

  • Account details: for as long as you have an account.
  • Booking, parcel and payment records: [RETENTION PERIOD], as tax and transport rules require.
  • The car's location history for a trip: [LOCATION RETENTION].
  • Parcel photos: [PHOTO RETENTION] after the parcel is collected.

8. How we protect it

Information is encrypted when it travels between your phone and our systems. Each passenger can see only their own bookings and parcels, and staff access is limited to what each role needs. Parcel drop-off and release codes are checked on our servers and are not stored on any phone. No system is perfectly secure: if a breach puts you at risk, we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as the law requires.

9. Storage on your device

The app keeps a small amount of information in your browser so it works properly: that you are signed in, and that you have seen the welcome screens. We do not use advertising cookies or trackers.

10. Children

Accounts are for people aged 18 and over. When an adult books for a child, we hold the child's name as a passenger on that booking and nothing more.

11. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask us to:

  • show you the information we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that is wrong, which you can also do in your account;
  • delete your information, or stop or limit how we use it;
  • send your information to you or another company in a common format;
  • stop sending you offers, at any time.

Ask through the help centre or [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We reply within [RESPONSE TIME] and do not charge for reasonable requests. Some records must be kept by law even after an account is deleted. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

12. Changes to this policy

We will tell you in the app before this policy changes in a way that affects you. It should be read with our terms and conditions.
